Summer is the perfect time to go on some not so typical dates with your significant other. Summer brings about a lot of fun activities and great weather which create many options for fun dates.

Picnic in the Park:

Have a picnic in one of the local parks around Findlay. Spend quality time together making food for the outdoor feast, soak up some sunshine, and check out the scenery by taking a walk afterwards. This is a cost free way to have fun.

Make the short travel up to the Toledo Zoo and pay about $15.00 for a ticket in order to spend one of your sunny summer days with the wild. Going to the zoo is a great way to make memories and see animals you can’t find in your backyard. Have fun wandering around the exhibits and learning facts about each animal while enjoying each other’s company. If you’re feeling like taking a longer trip, Cincinnati and Columbus both offer zoos, too.

Visit a Museum:

Break out of the ordinary and take a trip to the Toledo Museum of Art for free. A dinner date and walk through a museum is a good way to indulge in a little bit of culture. Take a step away from all the crazy summer activities and enjoy an artsy evening. Another interesting and cost free museum is our very own Hancock County Historical Museum in Findlay.

Photography Scavenger Hunt:

Get creative and come up with a list of funny pictures you and your significant other could take. This is a great way to have fun, get your creative juices flowing, and make some very interesting memories. If possible, get another couple and make a competition out of it. Below are a few examples from photo scavenger hunt lists.

-standing under a sign that starts with a “W”

-standing with a woman wearing pink

-eating an ice cream cone

-putting spare change in a donation jar

Dog Park Date:

Enjoy a beautiful summer day with not only your significant other but man’s best friend. Go to a dog park or take your pups on a nature walk, have a milkshake and spend the day outdoors getting your vitamin D. Get active, enjoy the weather, and the time you have together!

Sports Galore:

For sporty couples, there are many great summer activities to take part in. Grab a bat and head to a batting cage to get some swings in, go rollerblading, play some putt putt, or even try tennis at one of the local courts. If you aren’t interested in actually playing a sport, catch a baseball game! Tickets are relatively cheap and there are many different choices of teams here in Ohio.

Don’t have a date? You don’t need one to have a great summer! We’ve got what it takes to make a great summer right here in Findlay.

Something Old, Something New: Wedding Dresses through the Decades:

Take a trip to the Hancock Historical Museum for a limited time and check out dresses from the 1910s all the way to the 1970s! The exhibit is open to the public on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The exhibit will remain in Findlay until August of this year.

As you stroll through Main Street in downtown Findlay on Friday, May 2, you will find yourself immersed in the city’s culture and cuisine. Visit local merchants offering extended hours, special sales, art galleries, and much more. Visit Findlay from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to catch this special experience!

Boogie On Main:

Put on your dancing shoes and join the crowd on Main Street! On June 6, the Arts Partnership invites you to take a stroll down Main Street in Findlay as you listen to live music. Food and beverages will line the party as Main Street closes for the night for this special occasion. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under, and young children in strollers get in free!

Not feeling a night on the town? We’ve got you covered too. Here’s a list of the best summer “staycations” that we have to offer.

Movie Night:

This isn’t any ordinary movie night. Treat yourself to an awesome snack bar filled with your favorite candy! Or, try some new toppings for your popcorn such as:
  • Bunch-a-Crunch (salty and sweet is always a winner!)

  • Cheese powder (or parmesan cheese)

  • Ranch dressing (don’t go overboard-soggy popcorn is no fun.)

For an even better adventure, hook up the TV outside and enjoy.

Backyard Camping:

We all did it as kids, why not re-live the experience with friends? Have some friends over to set up a tent and kick back! This is the kind of adventure summer is made for! Light a campfire, roast s'mores, and witness nature just a few steps away from home. Take your experience to the next level and challenge yourself and your friends to leave the electronics in the house.

Scavenger Hunt:

Invite your friends over for a homemade scavenger hunt! Go door-to-door around your neighborhood asking for different items such as:

  • Ribbon

  • Buttons

  • A balloon

  • Pencils

The first team to find all of the items on their list wins a prize (food, a gift certificate, etc.). Be sure to play it safe on this one!

From dates to backyard adventures,  we have something for everyone this summer! From the Knight Writer staff: have a safe and happy summer!
