Though it technically started last week while Van Buren was enjoying Thanksgiving break, Downtown Winterfest has officially begun, happening every Monday and Friday through Dec. 23, 2013. The event takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on both of these days each week and features many fun activities. First, there’s the dazzling Christmas tree put up last Friday in Dorney Plaza, next to the Municipal Building. Next, there’s horse-and-wagon rides through historic Findlay straight down South Main Street, thanks to the Findlay Downtown Area Association. After that, the younger members of the family can meet Santa at Santa’s house (in the Municipal Building) and enjoy some free hot chocolate and cookies, courtesy of Kiwanis and the Flag City Morning Rotary Club, respectively. Finally, participants can do some shopping or catch a bite to eat in many downtown venues. Make sure that you check out this wonderful event in good old Flag City, before it’s gone!
