Jian Zhao, the Chinese teacher, made the trip from her office in Columbus, Ohio to visit her Chinese students here at Van Buren. Zhao Laoshi, which is how the students formly address her, teaches a middle school and high school class. She teaches in 10 school districts and says, "Van Buren is my best class because the students are disciplined and the teachers are very responsible." The middle school learn how to listen and talk, while the high school students are learning to read and write. She also stresses the importance of learning the historic and modern day Chinese culture. Zhao Laoshi teaches four levels of Chinese and hopes the Van Buren students will continue their Chinese education. She also explained the benefits of learning Chinese, considering China has the second largest world economy; learning Chinese will give students an advantage in the buisness world.
