Victorious "Knight" Saturday

It was a busy start to the weekend yesterday, with every winter sports team in action for the Black Knights on Saturday. The Van Buren Wrestling Invitational was in its second day of action, and several Van Buren athletes finished on the awards stand last night. Chance Sonnenberg and Isaac Sexton both took second place in their divisions, while teammates Payten Whitticar and Santos Miranda finished 3rd and 5th, respectively.

Both basketball teams also took the court Saturday, and both teams ended the day with quality wins. The Lady Black Knights defeated BVC opponent Cory Rawson, 69-53, to pick up their first conference win this season. Varsity Boys basketball improved to 8-5 this season with a win over Tiffin Calvert, 70-55. Senior Daniel Roberts led the Black Knights with 18 points, and Sawyer Junge added 11. Van Buren will travel to McComb for an important BVC matchup this Friday.

While Saturday was a busy day for the Black Knights, Sunday was much quieter, as no varsity sports were in action today. Girls Basketball will head to St. Wendelin on Monday. The JV game will tip-off at 6:00 PM. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is also tomorrow, which means Van Buren will have a scheduled day off from school, as students were rewarded with a three-day weekend after exams.
