The chili cook-off is on! This Friday, Nov. 1 in the high school cafeteria from 4:30-6:30 p.m., teachers, who are members of the Van Buren Education Association (VBEA) will be hosting the chili cook-off. See any VBEA member for tickets selling for $6. The cook-off benefits the VBEA scholarship that is given to a senior planning to be an education major in college.

Rick Eakin, the band director, is confident that his chili team will win said, “We will have the best recipe, with the best ingredients, and will win spoons-down!” Eakin also confirmed that regular ticket holders receive sample sized portions of each chili. Extra bowls are $4.

James Vaughn, the choir director, and chili-cook off participant shares how he plans to prepare for the face-off with his competitors. “Oh… lots and lots of hard work. We start with the selection of the chili recipe… kept closely guarded and completely under lock and key. Few have access to it, after a ritual and rite of passage.”

So grab your spoons and make your way to the high school cafeteria for fun, friends and chili!
