In order to raise funds for the upcoming senior class trip to Chicago, the senior class advisors are planning events, including a cookie sale on next Friday, Dec. 20.

The cookie sale will be held in the high school cafeteria during the basketball game that night, and each student planning to go on the trip will be asked to bring a batch of 3-4 dozen cookies. Trays of about 4 dozen cookies will be assembled by the students, and will be sold for $10. The proceeds of the cookie sale will go toward covering the trip costs.

“We hope to help out people that want an assortment of cookies for the holidays, but don’t want to bake them themselves,” said Schwemley. This is indeed a delicious way to raise funds.

Also on the fundraising agenda is an event held at Panera Bread on Tiffin Avenue, which will be on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The senior class will receive 10% of all sales between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. that evening. This is an excellent excuse to do some extra carb-loading, even during the post-holiday season.

The three-on-three basketball tournament makes a comeback! It will be held in March this year, and the final date is still to be announced. Anticipate another exciting night of basketball with the familiar faces of Van Buren’s students and staff.

And remember, more fundraising options can be suggested, and any senior can approach a senior class officer or Ms. Schwemley with their proposal. More money raised means reduced costs for the senior class trip, so get those ideas rolling!
