Black Knight Baseball, Softball Split with Tigers

posted Apr 18, 2014, 11:20 AM by Unknown user
The Black Knight softball and baseball teams were in action Thursday afternoon as both teams faced the North Baltimore Tigers at Van Buren.

Strong pitching early by Ross Adolph put the Black Knights in a favorable spot before the Knights exploded for eight runs in the third inning as the boys baseball team improved to 6-1 on the season. After entering the bottom of the third inning with the score tied at 1-1, Van Buren took control of the game scoring 12 runs in the final three innings of a run-rule shortened 13-3 victory. In addition to his strong pitching, Adolph led Van Buren with 2RBI. Schuyler Turner and Payten Whitticar also drove in two runs for the Knights, who take on New Riegel in a double header Saturday. Both games are at home, with the first game's scheduled first pitch at 10 a.m.

On the softball field, a few key errors late in the game ended up costing the Black Knights softball team as they fell to North Baltimore, 8-5 in eight innings Thursday. After falling behind early, the Knights scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead 5-3. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, North Baltimore rallied, scoring two runs to tie the game and force extra innings. The Tigers continued to pile on runs in the eighth, scoring another three runs that would not be answered by the Black Knights. The softball team fell to 4-7 this season, but look to rebound Friday as they travel to New Riegel this afternoon.
