Van Buren's Chance Sonnenberg, a state placer at the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament last year, will have another shot to reach the podium this year after finishing in third place in the District Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. After defeating his first two opponents 5-3 and 16-1, Sonnenberg needed a strong finish after falling 5-0 in the semifinal round to eventual 160 pound District champion Tyler Fahrer of Delta. The loss meant Sonnenberg needed to win his next two matches to advance to State for the second consecutive year, which he did, eventually beating Dylen Hartman 8-0 in the consolation bracket final. Isaac Sexton was Van Buren's other place winner, where he finished in sixth place in the 285 pound weight class. Van Buren took six wrestlers to the tournament, and came away with a 15th place finish in a 50 team field. Full results of the tournament are available here. |
