Carlee Schmelzer While some people spend their entire lives searching for their true love, others find love right across the street! This was the case for Mr. Niekamp and his wife Danielle. Mr. Niekamp was in his third year of college at The University of Findlay when the future love of his life moved in across the street. Their first date was a group date to Outback which blossomed into a loving relationship. After five years of dating and a confirmation from her father, Mr. Niekamp decided to pop the question. He waited in her apartment, down on one knee, for her to come home. When Danielle opened the door she was so surprised and overjoyed that she dropped her Taco Bell.On July 2, 2011, Danielle officially became Mrs. Niekamp. The wedding went off without a hitch and the reception was a blast. The newlyweds first dance was to “Something” by The Beatles. After the best man and maid of honor speeches, the bride and groom were surprised by a flash mob dancing to “Centerfield” by John Fogerty, playing off the fact Mr. Niekamp played basketball while Mrs. Niekamp was a cheerleader. They honeymooned in Antigua and love to travel together. They have been to Hawaii twice and Mr. Niekamp says that is by far the best place they have gone. Three years after the wedding, they have plans for kids, but further in the future. As Mr. Niekamp puts it, “Probably sooner than later, but not soon.” Who said I love you first? She did. What makes a strong marriage? Trust and friendship. |
