Alyssa Miller Audrie Ward is a captain in her fourth year of cheerleading for the Black Knights football team. As the season comes to a close, she reminisces on the troubles and triumphs of being a captain. “It can be stressful because there is a lot of pressure,” Ward states, “but it is also a lot of fun because I get to be a leader.” Ward explains that as a cheerleader, one must be positive even when not feeling like it. “The boys doing well this year has made the fans more excited about the game. They participate more in the cheers.” When talking about the new cheer coach, Mrs. Shaffer, Ward says “I think she has made us unified. She is able to point out the good things and fix the bad. She is also very organized.” Along with being the captain of the cheer team, Ward is involved in FFA and Powderpuff. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her friends, throwing the football with her brothers, and going to Browns’ games. Ward’s future plans include attending either Kent State University or Ohio University to study nursing. She wants to be an OB nurse because it seems like a rewarding experience to share in with the parents. What will you miss most about cheer? My squad.
