Alyssa Miller Bree Orchard braced the volleyball court on Saturday Oct. 18, 2014 to lead her team as captain one last time. While the lady knights did not beat McComb, Orchard did her part as setter and right-side hitter, wearing her heart on her sleeve, just as she has her entire volleyball career. On Thursday Oct. 16, 2014 the lady knights won 3-1 against the “team up north” North Baltimore. Orchard led the team to a win with five aces, five kills, 11 of 12 spike attempts, and 22 of 22 successful serves. Although she says she will miss the sport and her teammates, Orchard has a bright future ahead of her. Having applied to six colleges, both in Ohio and Florida, her options are open. “I really like the University of Florida, Ohio State University, and Ohio University. I like the idea of living in Florida but I would be far away from the rest of my family.” Orchard says she plans to study dietetics because it has always interested her. “Ever since my grandma was diagnosed with cancer, I realized how important it is to watch what you eat,” she says. “So, I want to be able to help people eat well and be healthy.” Aside from playing volleyball, Orchard is a part of the National Honor Society and St. Paul’s youth group. She also works at Stevi B’s. Her hobbies include reading, writing, and listening to Phillip Phillips and Dave Matthews. What is one interesting talent you have that many people don’t know about? I can make very weird faces. |
