With track season in full go this time of year, senior Laike Matthes has been training for success this season. He has been a part of the track program for four years now, lettering all four years, and even breaking the 4X200 relay record his sophomore year with teammates Preston Wise, Zach Rader, and Dean Rodabaugh with a 1:34.16. Matthes expressed his feelings about breaking the record, saying, “It is my favorite high school memory by far because we worked hard and I got to share the whole experience with four amazing teammates!” Along with running the 4X200, Matthes also runs the 4X400, open 200m, and open 400m. He admitted that one of his favorites is the 200m, which he recently won first place in at the St. Wendelin Invite. Running track i As for future plans he is unsure on where he wants to attend college but knows he wants to major in criminal justice, and become a profiler. What is your favorite thing to do outside of school and sports? Watch movies, because it can be any dream life you want to live in. Why don’t you go by your first name Patrick? It was an argument that my parents had. My mom wanted my name Patrick and my dad wanted it to be Laike, so they agreed to name me Patrick but call me Laike. Dream car: A Venom GT, because it’s the worlds fastest car. If you could be any superhero who would it be? Superman, because he is strong, fast, he can fly, and he has X-ray vision.
