Alyssa Miller Senior starting guard for the Van Buren Black Knights Varsity Basketball team, Nic Torres, helped lead his to an overall 15-8 season. The team ended their season in tournament play on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 against Bluffton; the Black Knights lost 69-63. Torres has been playing basketball since he was in kindergarten and says the most rewarding part about the game is winning. He mentioned that he will miss the competitiveness and being with his teammates most when the season ends. Future plans for Torres include attending Bowling Green State University to study business. “It is not too far from home and I like the size,” he says of the campus. Along with basketball, Torres plays varsity baseball. He volunteers at Owen’s and the YMCA as a coach for young kids. In his free time, Torres enjoys swimming, listening to music, and spending time with younger children. What has been your favorite game of the season? Why? Bluffton because there was a big crowd and it was a close game. They were a good team so it was fun beating them. If you could have one teacher as a parent, who would you chose and why? Mr. Bartlett, no doubt. He’s an interesting guy. I feel like we would have some fun. Favorite food: Alfredo Do you have any pregame rituals? I always listen to Drake. |
