On Nov. 7, 2014, Paige Schmelzer had 2 art pieces featured in Findlay’s Art Walk. Located in the Fort Findlay Apartments, both of Schmelzer’s pieces were looked upon by many as they toured the streets admiring some of Findlay's finest artists. “One of the pieces was a pot, that kind of looked like a chinese takeout box. It was black and white with a lot of designs on it,” Schmelzer said with a smile. Her second featured piece was “a t-shirt design that I created my sophomore year for the art program” concluded Schmelzer. Schmelzer was one of two students picked to represent Van Buren at the annual Art Walk,a huge honor. Schmezer is most recently working to refurbish her aunt’s new office, including painting, decorating and styling everything from the color of the walls to the bouquet in a vase.

Schmelzer currently works after school at Hutchison’s Fine Furniture in Findlay. She has the regular duties of an office intern while experiencing first hand what her future may hold as an interior designer. “I wanted a job at Hutchison’s so I could be around interior designers learning what the job entails, the good and the bad,” explains Schmelzer.

Schmelzer has already been accepted to and plans to attend Bowling Green State University to study interior design and business after finishing high school.

What will you miss most about high school? I don’t know that I’ll really miss much about high school. I’m excited for college and a lot of my friends are going to BGSU so that helps.

Describe your “perfect day”? I wake up in a beach house and I go to a secluded beach. It’s really really hot out and I just lay there all day, listening to music, with Dr. Pepper in my cup holder and an on-call macaroni & cheese chef.

What is the #1 thing on your bucket list? Buy a small island so I can live out my “perfect day”.
