Zach Hiris With seemingly no end to winter in sight, many students and faculty are surely getting tired of the endless amounts of snow and cold. With students running out of fingers to count the snow days Van Buren has had this year, many people could agree that warmer weather is needed soon. Winter sports are coming to an end, and meteorological spring starts in less than three weeks. However, a quick look outside any window in northwest Ohio would suggest there won’t be any signs of spring weather for several more months. There is good news for those who are tired of the cold: spring is coming. Unfortunately, there is still several more weeks of winter to deal with before the warm spring weather sets in for good. Instead of moping around until that day comes, check out these tips for “surviving” the rest of winter: Get the bread and milk. With several storms this year forcing many counties to issue Level 2 and 3 snow emergencies for days at a time, it’s important to have extra bread and milk. Besides, who doesn’t love toast? Work on your New Year’s resolution. Use the cold and snow as motivation to reach some of your goals. Go to sporting events. If outdoor activities aren’t your thing, there’s plenty of chances to show school spirit. Go out and support your school! Build a snowman or igloo. It feels like there’s enough snow on the ground to cover the entire continent, so use it to your advantage! Not only can it be fun, but it’s a good way to pass time. Organize a snowball fight. Seriously, there is so much snow. Don’t let it just sit there! The VB hill is a great place for this fun activity. Try out winter sports. It’s perfect outside for cross country skiing. It may be tough to learn, but it’s a good workout and a fun sport to enjoy the outdoors. Watch the sunrise and sunsets. Winter is the best time to watch the sunset. Plus, it can look pretty cool too (image from 1MS.NET) Start a spring countdown. If winter really isn’t your thing, start making plans for when the weather turns warmer! Enjoy the sun. It may seem like a dumb idea, but enjoying what little sunlight there is can help make the winter a little more bearable and help your complexion tremendously.
Record-setting cold and snow isn’t always fun, but it’s important to make the most of every season.
