Outstanding Student Athletes

        Many of Van Buren’s student athletes received honors both in the league and the district for their outstanding performances. Here are all of the recognized VB athletes and their awards.


Cross Country

Three seniors, Rachell Resnik, Michelle Flanagan, and Joel Schumacker, from the cross country team received all-district awards. In addition to holding the school record and 2013 district title, Resnik also was featured as athlete of the week twice throughout the season.


Football


For the football team, senior Collin Hiatt, juniors Adam Endicott and Drew Conner, and sophomore Marcus Brand collected honorable mentions in the BVC.


Seniors Joey Nelson and Nick Hoehn received all-academic BVC. 


Two other juniors also picked up awards. Cole Martin received first-team defensive back BVC, and Isaac Sexton earned second-team offensive tackle BVC.


Boys' Golf



        
VB’s champion boys’ golf team swept up some individual awards. Senior Sawyer Junge earned first-team in both the BVC and the Northwest District.


Senior Mac Williams joined him in the first-team BVC category, while seniors Jimmy Irving, Aaron Franklin, and Zach Hiris earned second-team BVC. Irving and Hiris also received Northwest District Honorable Mention.


Sophomores Cole Ohlrich and Nick Overmyer received honorable mention BVC.


Williams, Hiris, and senior Drew Patterson received all-academic BVC.


It doesn’t stop there though, all six seniors, including Aaron Franklin, earned academic all-Ohio awards.



Girls' Golf


        Girls’ golf star NWOGGL player of the year was VB’s very own Ashley Overmyer! She also earned first-team NWOGGL, second-team Northwest District, and academic all-Ohio awards.


Three other golf girls, senior Emily Foust, junior Erin Neall, and sophomore Carlee Schmelzer, collected awards for first-team NWOGGL, while freshmen Zoie Nieto, Ashley Franklin, and Lydia Smith received second-team NWOGGL honors.




Boys' Soccer


A total of six players from the boys’ soccer team were recognized; two in each of the top categories for the NCOSA league. Senior Daniel Roberts and sophomore Trenton Boyette received first-team NCOSA.


Receiving second-team NCOSA were junior Chance Sonnenberg and sophomore J.J. Mowrey.


Lastly, freshman Ryan Turner and junior Nathan Maynard earned spots in the honorable mention category.


Girls' Soccer


This was the the third year that the girls’ soccer program was involved in the NCOSA league and quite a few of the girls earned themselves awards.

        

        Senior Madi Endicott, junior Nichole Miller, and sophomore Gabbi McCracken received first-team NCOSA.


        Junior Rachel Wymer and sophomore Taylor Gilliland earned second-team NOCSA, and senior Abby Shroll and freshman Marly McCartney collected honorable mention NCOSA.


Volleyball


As the season ended for the volleyball team a few of the girls received different awards. Senior captain Paige Sudlow picked up three awards including, third-team BVC, honorable mention District 8, and all-academic BVC.


Juniors Lauren Wise and Brianna Orchard earned honorable mention BVC.  


Congratulations to all of the student athletes who were awarded honors, and good luck in the next seasons!
